One major problem, though - went to plug in power, but the socket dropped through the plastic case. Troy W 5.0 out of 5 stars I fished out the hard drive and used this product to connected it to a new iMac to copy over music, photos, pics, etc. This was an inexpensive way to solve my problem. It worked just fine. Quality: The packaging and qualify of this item feels a little like something that might come from a dollar-type store. Based on other reviews, I see there is a risk that the item could arrived damaged. I wasn't too worried because I would simply return and exchange if that was the case. I lucked out--it arrived in good shape for me. Skill level: I've seen this described as both easy and difficult. I will lean toward easy.

I think anyone who can hook up a DVD player to a TV can figure this out. I don't think this product even had instructions, but there was just two cords to connect and a few screws to turn. In the end, glad I bought. I do think your only risk may be getting a produc that is damaged and you'll have to exchange. The only other other is to pay double (approx) and purchase something from a major electronics store to eliminate the risk. Please try again later. Please try again later. Hilary Baumann 4.0 out of 5 stars This metal is cool to the touch and has ridges to hopefully help dissipate heat some. Cons: - stand different than pictured (doesn't bother me) - Plastic front, back and sides. Not sure why the sides aren't metal. - drive hangs freely inside so not good for travel (which is ok for me) - no fan (so don't just turn it on and leave it on all the time) - big power brick (though that seems fairly common with external drives) but at least this means it doesn't take over extra spots on a power strip. - IDE only (just in case you were wondering.) Would I buy it again. It's a tossup between this one and the one I bought that's about four dollars less. I like that this one screws closed and seems slightly better quality, I like that the other one was four dollars less and had metal sides. Please try again later. Please try again later. Michael A. Zickus 5.0 out of 5 stars After reading reviews on this enclosure I decided to get it. It comes with everything you need to install the hard drive into the enclosure including a small screwdriver. The only thing, as many people have mentioned, is that the sides of the enclosure actually slide forward to expose the screw holes that lock the hard drive into the enclosure. After that, just slide the side pieces back over the screws and attached the appropriate wires and your done. Mine fired right up and I backed up all my files and my computer on it just in case something happens.

Works great and it comes with a small stand to hold on a flat surface. Runs fairly cool and doesn't get hot. Connected right away to my laptop running windows xp so it should be no problem with anything else. Just make sure the drive jumper wire is set to Master and you should be fine. My IDE had a little diagram on the back of it showing how to connect it so that it was set to MASTER. Good to go!!Please try again later. Please try again later. Paul Sebring 5.0 out of 5 stars The drives were fairly easy to install and are held securely by screws, but the screw holes take some shifting to line up and there are no shock absorbing mounts. A small inexpensive screwdriver is included. There are instructions that clearly state the drive must be configured as a master drive, so I moved the jumper from cable select to master. The interface is as fast as USB 2.0 allows, which is not as fast as Parallel ATA, but equivalent to any other USB 2.0 external drive. I like the power supply connector because it is a common coaxial power connector rather than the multi-pin connector on another enclosure I bought. I like the power switch.I like the one LED that glows green on power and adds red to produce amber during drive access. Please try again later. Please try again later. PapaBear 4.0 out of 5 stars The thing I liked most, was the ease of drive installation. My previous enclosure was from MadDog, and it was a bitch to install the drive. This Sabrent model has a very simple and clever design. It appears to flimsy at first, but once the drive is in, and the screws are in, it's fine. There are so many differing reviews about how to set the jumper. The instructions say Master. Some people say this doesn't work. Some people say it's the ONLY way to get it to work. My guess is, it depends on the particular hard drive people are using. My drive was already on Cable Select, when I took it out of my old enclosure. I left it on CS when I put in this one, and it works fine.

I was a little disappointed when I opened the box, and discovered that the flimsy stand was broken. But a drop of super glue solved that problem. All in all, you can't go wrong with this for a measly (.).Please try again later. Please try again later. Jaxsey X. Wells 4.0 out of 5 stars I couldnt install the old drive into my new dell because my dell uses sata and my old drive was ide. The drive (120gb) had mostly movies and mp3's on it. I installed it into this suprisingly well built unit and plugged it into my new dell. It works fast, like the drive were installed into the computer almost. If you have a similar situation it really does make life easy, not to mention i can use it as a flash drive for large amounts of files from my laptop to my desktop. It never got hot enough to feel dangerous or detrimental to the unit, but it did get quite hot with the 10,000 rpm drive in there. (very little airflow if any for the drive)Please try again later. Please try again later. Kerry Turner 4.0 out of 5 stars The instructions were a little poor. Well, I did that and it did not work. After I got that figured out, it was easy to fit into the enclosure. They even included a screw driver and screws in the box. I didn't need anything. That was a nice surprise. After connecting to my USB (Win XP), it was detected and I could access all of my stored files. I have several hard drives in a box leftover from years of upgrades (a pack rat of sorts). I am considering getting several of these enclosures for these old hard drives, labeling them, and just connecting as the need arises. Please try again later. John Kohl 5.0 out of 5 stars Reading the reviews and knowing ahead of time that I might need to try a couple of things proved invaluable. After reading all the other reviews, I knew that if it didn't work on the first try then to change the jumper location. It worked perfect on the second try. Many other reviewers said their drives just float unsecured in the enclosure but my 300 GB Western Digital drive had holes that lined up perfectly on the narrow sides (top and bottom). What I didn't know is that a plastic slider conceals the screw holes. I found this by accident. After removing both sliders, I saw the two holes on each side and lined them up with my drive. Now I'm locked and loaded and all data is now backed up thanks to my now-external hard drive. Please try again later. Please try again later. April 23, 2016 A basic aluminum box that does exactly what it's supposed to do. The drive sits loosely inside, so it could rattle around when being moved. The power switch and LED light are on the back along with the power cords, so you can't actually see the light -- which pretty much defeats the purpose of having it.

The plastic stand doesn't have a notch or anything to lock the drive into place, so you have to be careful when moving it that it doesn't slide out. It came up saying the drive was now usable, but there was no new drive letter and no way to see any of the files on the drive.
