There are not effects or effect loops - this unit was designed to be as simple as possible. UTILIZATION The Taxi is basically plug-and-play. You don't really need a manual. You get a clear and loud sound right away - any sound tweaking should be done with outboard equipment though. The built in EQ ist good for last minute adjustments but really is not of very high quality. The unit is quite heavy - but on the other hand you get up to eight hours of independence. SOUNDS This amp does not really sound good and it is not the intention of this piece of equipment. It sounds decent enough though and most importantly: it is loud. I was quite amazed at the volume that came out of this little box. I know now why this has been a staple for street musicians. When you stand outside it is not important if the highs are breathy or the lows are tight - it mainly matters that you are heard over all the other noises surrounding you.http://creluxbuildingsupply.com/uploadfiles/200904120317775569llgrb0.xml

crate tx15 manual, crate tx15 schematic, crate tx15 review, crate tx15 service manual, crate tx15 manual.

Most players add a bit of delay to make the signal less dry. OVERALL OPINION This amplifier has really been holding its own ground mainly because it can deliver a loud signal for quite a long time without having to plug into a power outlet. If you want more power get the TX30. I think Roland just put out a new version of their cube series - I don't know how well they do compared to the Taxi though. I also don't know if this amp should be any bigger or heavier for it to be still portable. If you are a travelling street musician this might already be too much - maybe someday they will develop lighter batteries. The Taxi 15 really is not very expensive though and is built to last. So if you need a setup that needs to be independet of a power supply and still need to stay within a certain budget this might be an interesting solution. 1 people found this review helpful Did you find this review helpful? yes no. Needed a battery-powered portable PA for busking. This little two-way amp comes with 4 inputs: one XLR for a mic, a HiZ input for electric guitar, and two RCA jacks for tape or CD source. It's much louder and cleaner than I expected from a trapazoid about the size of a big bread box. It's powered by a lead acid battery, lasting 6-8 hours or so. And takes about that long to charge if you drain it very low. I haven't used it up in a session yet. In use it's pretty darn amazing. To test it Dad and I fired it up in his back yard and he played harmonica while wailed on my new Boca 12-string. Neighbors were amazed and only left when we tried to pass a hat. The first one came with a bad battery. Poor QC? or was the box dropped in shipment revealing the lead acid battery may be liable to cracking. But Zzounds sent a new one to me 2-day air, no extra charge. And it's perfect. Like all such units, it's very feedback prone with a mic attached. Well built, compactbox, sturdy grill in front. Standard black Tolex-covered chipboard. Knobs and pots have a quality feel.http://www.glasskorea.org/uploaded/9700187745f522d311f987.xml

The connectors seem better than average. Mic, guitar, and a pair of RCA inputs make this a versatile, loud, clean sounding porta-PA for the high tech busker. The 4-band EQ helps with the tendency to feedback. Crate's TX15 Taxi is their low end 15-watt unit. This review was originally published on Did you find this review helpful? yes no. UTILIZATION What's the point of having a legalization four bands when an amp is also sucks. Sound good? L must be good! SOUNDS The Crate is for drama, as saying. In recent years, more and more Limos have the “Bad Pot” “Failed Potentiometer,” causing the very loud pop or crackle. Unless you’re ambitious to fix it yourself, since a pro repair can cost more than the Limo, you might want to look for a different trouble-free Limo. This seller has turned out trustworthy for me. Low risk, since Ebay always gets the buyer refunded, if a problem seller. Many Limos have missing or replaced feet. Many are relocated to the other two more used surfaces. No “SLM Electronics” printed. It sounds identical. The polymer Limos ALL have a black metal grill, never this grey grill shown. Tone opinions? These bolts hold the battery bracket inside. By 2005, manufacturing was already in transition, moving to China. Others may have different experiences and strong opinions. Don’t throw the old battery in the trash. Many dealers who sell the batteries will also accept dead batteries from non-customers. Some auto battery dealers will also accept old non-auto batteries for recycling. No harm, but mangled connector ends, resized twice. Then every three months, repeat the full saturation charge.

A healthy battery will retain a high percentage of its power after three months storage in normal room temperatures. However, the Limo charger is not designed for “float charge” AKA “trickle charge” (maintaining maximum charge after fully charged), so unplug the charger. Like a car battery, you can sometimes bring it back to partial life with a long charge (all day, overnight), but it won’t be strong like before. The battery terminals are “F2” (wider). Longer run time, but the trade-off will be the added weight, and the chore to make it fit. The connectors might slip off of the pins easily by gently lifting the white plastic away from the circuit board. Of course, lift by the plastic, NOT pulling on the wires. NEVER force or hurry this part. The white plastic connectors (next photo) pull up away from the circuit board. Super-easy next time, because they won’t be “stuck” so much, and you’ll have experience doing it. Note the metal battery bracket, and one of the bolts holding the bracket in place. The other bolt and both nuts are hidden in this photo: Reach inside with one hand and hold the nut as you remove the bolt. Most of these old chargers still work. It’s a big “brick.” They solder directly onto the circuit board. The hole on this metal control plate needed to be widened slightly for this replacement pot to fit. I like the big ol’ easy-to-grab volume knobs. Not so simple, but not so difficult. A Volume or EQ pot can crackle or pop very loudly when the pot is rotated or just tapped with a finger. Check this when buying a Limo. Rotate and tap on all the knobs, with power on. These same pots exist in some other Crate amps, but which amps? B50K is also called 50KL, and B250K is also called 250KL. The first two digits are the significant number, and the third number is the multiplier (or number of zeroes to add to the first two digits). The last letter is the taper. B taper is linear, also sometimes designated with an “L” instead of a “B”.

FPBJ-50KL and FPBJ-250KL for the two mentioned above. Also sent out at this “ring” are the optional Limo effects and anything coming in thru the RCA jacks. Whenever the RCA input sound is thin or it sounds lower volume than you recall, or parts of the stereo audio missing, it might be one of the two RCA halves not making a full stable contact.Louis during production, please let them know they could really help improve this page. My assumption is that this amp is completely dead and needs many hours to charge, however. I checked out the crate site and the instruction manual says that if the light does not come on when its plugged in, the battery may be beyond repair. My friend assured me that these were not used very long (they look almost brand new by appearance). I'm sorta hoping that everything works in a few hours.

Has anyone had any experience with one of these sitting out for a loooong time and having to recharge a completely dead battery. Do these symptoms sound familiar? Thanks.I would have thought that the amp would produce some output with the charger plugged in, it is designed to run off the charger if there is a supply available. First, check that the charger is in fact working correctly with a meter across the output plug. If it is producing an output, from memory I think its somewhere between 16-22v as there will be no load on it.If this is the case then a new battery will be required. Does the yellow LED come on when you switch it on. It will show red if the battery has charge but is getting low. Sometimes, a dead battery may recharge back to life, try leaving it plugged in for a few hours and see if the charge light comes on. Also, Crate ceased making these amps in the USA in about 2005, they shifted production to China. If the one you have has been made in china, take it back to the shop as they have very poor build quality. Look for a USA made TAXI TX30 if you want one of these amps. I have been using mine for 4-5 years now and it is brilliant with electro accoustic guitar, fiddle, mic etc.Very reliable and very loud! melHow much did a replacement battery cost you? (PM me if you need to, but I don't think that this goes against pricing discussion seeing as how this is a factory install.)The only difference is that the electrolyte is a gel, and the case is sealed. If the voltage of this type of battery is allowed to fall below about 2-3 volts it impairs the ability of the battery to recharge and hold a charge. This may be what has happened with your amp. If it is the same as the one in the TX30, then it is a 12V 7.5 Ah. If you remove the 8 screws that hold the control panal onto the case, you can get access to remove the battery. Its quite easy.

Over here, there is only one size for that capacity, but you need to check in the USA in case there are different size options. The battery clamp will only take one size. melIf the one you have has been made in china, take it back to the shop as they have very poor build quality. I have been using mine for 4-5 years now and it is brilliant with electro accoustic guitar, fiddle, mic etc.Very reliable and very loud! mel I purchased a plastic cabinet TX30 and decided that I could have a portable PA by adding a second one to my small passive mixer. I asked for one for Christmas (2 years ago) and received a wood cabinet model which to me sounds fuller. The plastic one seems to lose a charge very fast now and the pilot light becomes red instead of yellow. I honestly didn't think either model would be USA made.I would assume that the bass and mids would be slightly better with the wooden cases as they would be less resonant. The plastic cases came in on the later models, but were still made in America. From what I have read over the years, Crate ceased trading in about 2005 and were taken over by another company. Manufacure of the Taxi range was then moved to China. So, on the face of it anything manufactured after this take over was done so in China. My experience of the batteries is that they dont last very long before they lose there capacity. 2 years is about it. But, its an easy job to change them and they are quite cheap. The difference in price from a budget battery to a top quality one is only about 25%, so I now buy the top quality ones. I should qualify this by saying that I use my Taxi flat out, and this may be why they dont last very long. MelI only need an amp a few times a year and worrying about a battery totally draining and ruining itself is a little much. Also, I didn't want to just leave it plugged up all of the time and never use it while it runs my house electricity bill up. I may take a second look at the roland unit that takes a buncha AA's.

If the amp is not being used and is turned off, it doesnt have to be plugged in to the wall outlet. The battery will hold a charge for several months, if not longer. All you have to do is recharge it every 3 months say, and over night on the eve of the day you are going to use it. Think of it as the same as a car you have laid up in the garage for a while. It was due to a faulty battery and the shop I bought it from replaced it with a new one. I found with mine that it would work on very low volumes with the power supply connected, but the moment I tried to increase the volume the sound broke up - in other words, the power supply alone does not supply sufficient voltage to operate the amp on full power. The system is apparently set up so that it will not recharge a faulty battery, so the light doesn't come on when you attach the power supply. Anyway, I'm glad you managed to sort your problem, even it did mean returning the amp. Incidentally, I have found my replacement one to be very good indeed. PaulI always try to buy equipment that's just a little more than what I need so that I can expand and not outgrow. I like how the larger version has a hole for a post in case it needs to be raised. I play hammered dulcimer and will be using a mic. An amp is necessary when playing outdoors and I'll be darn if I'm going to mess with dropcords ever again when dealing with outdoor events. Also, brides are NOT really happy with an orange dropcord running through the middle of the wedding party. Thanks for the clarification on what is needed to maintain the battery. I bought it in Tokyo, Japan (In the ochanomizu area, in case you are visiting. Its in a fairly nasty yellow colour that is supposed to look like an american taxi, and the back is covered in Japanese stickers (beyond my reading ability) that look like dire warnings against fiddling with the battery etc. Had it for about two months in Japan before coming back, and only used it a few times, mostly at low levels.

I took it through about three charge cycles I think, and it then came home with me. I played it (on battery) after coming back, and it worked, but I then tried to charge it with the Japanese charging unit transformer thing through a plug converter. The charging unit produced some nasty smelling black smoke, a loud pop and a blue flash. Don't plug a 110v charging unit into British 240v, like I did. After this it still played fine, though the battery was dying fast. Got a 15v charger with the right adapter, and it did charge it successfully for a bit. After a few days of light usage, it began to charge erratically - say, charging for 10 seconds, stopping briefly and starting again, interspersed with longer sections of it not charging for quite some time (assuming the charge LED was accurate.) Shortly thereafter it decided it didn't want to charge at all, and the charge LED would stay on red (low batt indication) no matter how long I left it charging, unless the light went out altogether). The bits on the back of the amp that were in English said if if it does that, the battery is dead. Given that it did a fairly nasty job of amplifying my guitar (horrible twang on trebles), I was starting to think this is a piece of crap, I didn't buy it expecting great sound, purely for being able to play amplified without wall power, and it won't even do that. I took it to the LMS and they said they could send it off to Holland to the Crate European dealer to replace the battery, but that crate would charge quite a lot, never mind the costs of posting the brute overseas. I basically gave up on it until finding this thread, and have now taken it apart in the hopes of replacing the battery myself. Thank you mel for notifying me of these battery sites: I didn't know of their existence until you brought them up. Taking it apart is easy enough, Just go for most of the big screws on the back, and the battery should become accessible.

Hope this late and overlong first ever post isn't a complete waste of time. St John MacG.G.I took it home and plugged it in the wall so that it could charge. Do these symptoms sound familiar? Thanks. I would assume that the bass and mids would be slightly better with the wooden cases as they would be less resonant. I should qualify this by saying that I use my Taxi flat out, and this may be why they dont last very long. Mel The rest of you all helped, too. Thanks. Purchased my Crate TX-15 in late-2010. The battery died mid-2014. The entire control panel was now easily removed. Be careful not to stress or break the long connector wires. I unplugged the two wires where attached to battery. Grasp the plugs, not the wires, when wiggling them off. The battery is cradled in a metal bracket secured by two, fine-thread machine screws. I used pliers to hold the nut, while using screwdriver to turn the screw out. The 1st one is easy, but the last one behind battery (near the speaker magnet) was tougher. Battery was now simply lifted out. Many diff't brand names, -likely all made in the same Chinese factories. Rec'd new battery within 3 days, in good shape. For very detailed spec sheet, see www.sigmastek.com. It arrived already charged (12.76V). With my Crate TX-15 still opened up, I connected the amp's battery wires and hit the ON switch. It worked fine! To check it's ability to recharge, I plugged the Crate wall charger into it. Reading jumped to 13.43V. Over the next 4 hours, the reading rose to 13.53 V while charging. With the charger removed, the battery reading slowly stabilized at around 13 V, higher than the original 12.76V reading. This indicated (to me at least) it should recharge OK. The SigmasTek spec sheet provides lots of charts and data: it should be able to handle 200 recharges if 100% depleted, over 500 recharges if battery only 50% depleted, and over 1400 recharges if battery only 30% depleted--over it's 4-year life expectancy.

For longest battery life, it seems best to use the amp 2-3 hours, then recharge it fully, rather than use it until the battery's dead before recharging it. Also helps to use the amp a little every few months, then recharge it fully, rather than let it sit around unused for longer periods. Maybe in another 5 years, someone will find my own little post useful. Pass it on. Even though this particular amplifier is compact in design, the built-in DSP effects, two channels and both XLR and quarter-inch inputs suggest its professional capabilities. While the battery is rechargeable, there are a number of scenarios, such as overheating or extended battery life, that may require you to change this power source. Step 1 Charge the battery for 6 hours to make sure that the battery is not just low. There is an LED indicator on the rear of the Crate Limo amplifier that shows battery life. Connect the charger to a working wall outlet.

If the LED indicator remains red or never illuminates at all after charging, replace this battery. Step 2 Unscrew all of the rear panel screws that hold the casing of the Crate Limo amplifier together. Set these screws aside, as you will need them when reinstalling this back piece. Carefully remove this part from the amp and set it aside. Step 3 Disconnect the factory-installed 12V battery from its rear plug connector. Dispose of this old battery according to environmental regulations, do not just throw it away in standard trash can. Connect the new battery to the Crate's rear connection.
